The Election Commission has filed a criminal case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s son M K Stalin. Stalin was shown on opposition, AIADMK-run television giving voters money while campaigning.
But the AIADMK isn’t exactly celebrating. And that’s because the Election Commission has also issued a notice to Jayalalitha’s party for doing exactly the same thing, bribing voters.
The DMK says it is a common practice to give money to parents after such roadside christening ceremonies. But the opposition AIADMK has been quick to latch on to these visuals to bolster its complaints of illegal means being adopted by the ruling DMK to woo voters in Thirumangalam.
The Election Commission is now examining the evidence against Stalin. It is also filing cases against the AIADMK for attempting to bribe voters.
