India Vs NewZealand Match Called Off !!

India were rocking at 130 for one in 19 overs when rain disrupted the proceedings. After two restarts, the tourists had surged to 188 for four from 28.4 overs when the skies opened yet again.

Three interruptions had reduced the 50-over game to a 34-over affair, frustrating the motley crowd which hung on patiently for almost four hours before the umpires put them out of their anxiety. The teams move to Christchurch for the third ODI with India leading the five-match series 1-0.

Virender Sehwag (54) and Sachin Tendulkar (61), prudently playing second fiddle to his adventurous partner, put India in the driver’s seat with a quick-fire 76-run partnership for the first wicket.

The players of both teams, match officials and spectators observed a minute’s silence before the start of play, in recognition of the attack on the Sri Lankan team in Pakistan this week. Players and officials also wore black armbands during the game.

Terror Hits Cricket: England Tour And Champions League Postponed!!

cricket_logo champions

Terror strikes in the commercial capital of India have left cricket’s superpower bleeding as England have abandoned their one-day series, called off the remaining two games, and the showbiz Champions League T20 has been postponed, raising a huge question mark over international sports events in the subcontinent.

The England team were also to play two Tests immediately after the one-day series, and a decision on it is expected in the next 24 hours after the team management discussed the matter with Indian officials as well as the England and Wales Cricket Board. England were scheduled to play a Test match in Mumbai and would have stayed at the Taj, the hotel the terrorists seized on Wednesday night. The sixth one-day international was to be played at Guwahati (November 29) and the last match in Delhi (December 2). The inaugural Champions League T20 event, billed as a major money-grosser for the BCCI and other founding cricketing boards of England, Australia, South Africa and Pakistan, had to be postponed.

The Governing Council of the Champions League T20 at an emergency meeting decided to call off the December 3-9 events scheduled to be played in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.  It was agreed that in the best interests of all concerned, the inaugural edition of the Champions League 2020 should be postponed,” said Lalit Modi, chairman of the Champions League Twenty20. The officials and security advisers from various countries associated with the league were billeted in the two hotels seized by the terrorists, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower and the Oberoi Trident, and they were in a state of shock after going through the night-long horror.

Champion teams from England, Australia, South Africa and Pakistan were expected to arrive by this weekend to take part in the tournament. Pakistan player Sohail Tanvir and Kamran Akmal, members of the inaugural Champions League champions Rajasthan Royals, already in the western metropolis, were shaken when they heard of the terror strikes while dining with friends. Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne, who was in Singapore en route to Mumbai, changed his travel plans at the last minute and did not take the connecting flight from the Changi international aiport.

BCCI has confirmed India’s tour next year!!!

India England Cricket

The BCCI President Shashank Manohar has assured his Pakistani counterpart Ejaz Butt that the Indian Team will visit Pakistan as per schedule early next year.

According to a press release issued by the PCB, Butt and Manohar had a telephonic discussion about the tour on Tuesday.

Manohar told Butt that he has written to his government for the clearance of the tour and the BCCI is expected to get a reply in the next ten to 12 days and the PCB would be informed accordingly.

India is due to tour Pakistan to play three Tests, five One-Day Internationals and a Twenty20 game from January 20 and the itinerary of the tour has been agreed upon by both the Boards.

But the tour is subject to clearance from the Indian government which this month stopped its junior hockey team from touring Pakistan for a Test series as it was not satisfied with the security arrangements made by the Pakistani authorities.

The PCB has talked about shifting the series to a neutral venue including England or switching the series with India in case the Indian government does not give clearance for the tour.

India takes on England today- 1 st One Day!!

dhoni1

Four days after M. S. Dhoni’s men did the victory run at Nagpur, India takes on England in a seven-match One-Day International series.

The first ODI commences at the Madhavrao Scindia Stadium here on Friday.

The build-up has been amiable unlike the India-Australia skirmishes that preceded the Test series.

Andrew Flintoff recently said that India was ‘possibly the best team in the World’.

England skipper Kevin Pietersen lauded M.S. Dhoni and the Indian captain reciprocated with a word of thanks in Thursday’s press conference.

The lack of heat in the run-up to the match forced the media to query about the big-hits that cannoned from one rival net to the other.

Was a statement being made? Dhoni said, “Not really. Just that both teams were practising nearby.”

Pietersen said, “If a guy is practising a shot, he is practising a shot. Nothing more.”

Dhoni leads a young squad with Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Virat Kohli and Yusuf Pathan. Add to it M. Vijay.

Vijay, however, will have to wait for his ODI debut as there are no slots with Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir at the top of the batting line-up and a middle order that is packed.

Yuvraj Singh’s poor form during the Sri Lankan tour will be a cause for worry. A century while leading the Board President’s XI against the Aussies has been his only feel-good moment.

Ishant Sharma, down with an ankle sprain, will be missed but in the experienced duo of Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh, Dhoni has bowlers used to the run-belters that are dished out as pitches for limited-over cricket.
